Week 24..VERY LATE!!

I'm almost 25 weeks and I'm just now posting week 24..YIKES!!

Your baby's growing steadily, having gained about 4 ounces since last week. That puts him at just over a pound. Since he's almost a foot long (picture an ear of corn), he cuts a pretty lean figure at this point, but his body is filling out proportionally and he'll soon start to plump up. His brain is also growing quickly now, and his taste buds are continuing to develop. His lungs are developing "branches" of the respiratory "tree" as well as cells that produce surfactant, a substance that will help his air sacs inflate once he hits the outside world. His skin is still thin and translucent, but that will start to change soon.

Slacking on my posting!

Wow.  So, I've totally been slacking on posting blogs!

So, as my last post shows, I've hit 23 weeks.  Again, it's really flying by and I'm really freaking out!  We have SOO much to do and get and not enough time!  I have a feeling we'll get everything done just in time!  We'll be cutting it close, but hey, we're pros at that!  HA!

All in all, I'm feeling pretty good.  I can't really complain..Although I'm sure I could find something!  My new thing is leg cramps!  They kept me up a lot yesterday night.  Work is definitely getting harder physically so poor Tony has to hear me complain A LOT.  I really have to watch my diet cause at my list visit I had gained 4 pounds which puts me at a total of 6 and I still have a few more months to go!  But over the last few weeks, I've actually been wanting to eat as opposed to the weeks prior where everything made me sick.

Meat is still slightly hard for me to eat...The smell really gets to me sometimes.  Dairy products are still big on my cravings list (Yoplait Yogurt especially!) and of course my sweet tooth is out of control.  That's my problem.  It's always my problem!  But when nothing else sounds appetizing, of course sweets do!  HA!  I have been craving food I don't normally like so Tony's really hoping this means he'll have a food buddy who will try new and crazy things with him.  Which takes the pressure off me so I'm all for it!

Oh and we have agreed (both of us!) 100% on Zoe Misako Gist as the name.  And in case you were wondering (because Tony badgered me about it) Misako means "Child of Misa" and Misa means "Beautiful Bloom".  It's definitely made it real, seeing her picture, and naming her.  We can now call her Zoe when we're talking about her which at times is kind of weird!  But we're super excited to meet her!

23 Weeks!

Here's info on Zoe at 23 weeks!!  It's getting exciting!!  In 5 weeks I'll start going to the doctor every other week...It's going by so fast!

Turn on the radio and sway to the music. With her sense of movement well developed by now, your baby can feel you dance. And now that she's more than 11 inches long and weighs just over a pound (about as much as a large mango), you may be able to see her squirm underneath your clothes. Blood vessels in her lungs are developing to prepare for breathing, and the sounds that your baby's increasingly keen ears pick up are preparing her for entry into the outside world. Loud noises that become familiar now — such as your dog barking or the roar of the vacuum cleaner — probably won't faze her when she hears them outside the womb.

Already at 22 weeks!!

Here is what Zoe is up to at 22 weeks!

At 11 inches (the length of a spaghetti squash) and almost 1 pound, your baby is starting to look like a miniature newborn. His lips, eyelids, and eyebrows are becoming more distinct, and he's even developing tiny tooth buds beneath his gums. His eyes have formed, but his irises (the colored part of the eye) still lack pigment. If you could see inside your womb, you'd be able to spot the fine hair (lanugo) that covers his body and the deep wrinkles on his skin, which he'll sport until he adds a padding of fat to fill them in. Inside his belly, his pancreas — essential for the production of some important hormones — is developing steadily.

Clothes!

Tony and I don't want to buy too many things yet, as we still need to move and have little to no space to store anything right now, but we couldn't resist buying a couple of things!  So, of course we bought some clothes!

The first outfit Tony actually picked out.  It's a really cute set!  It too says "Thank Heaven for Little Girls" and it came with a onesie, pants, jacket, bib, and blanket!

Then we found a couple of body suits...

The first one, "Yes I'm cute.  It's Okay to Look" totally cracked me up.  Couldn't resist.

The Shopping has Begun! (Sort of!)

Yesterday, after we found out we are having a girl, of course I wanted to go look at girl things!  We first went to Target and I really didn't see anything that I LOVED.  I saw things that I liked, but not LOVED.  Today we went to Wal-Mart and I assumed I wouldn't find anything I like and ended up finding LOTS.  I even picked up a baby book!  I have been searching and searching for a baby book...I just couldn't find one I liked, until today!

Here's the baby book..It says "Thank Heaven for Little Girls".  I loved the outside but more importantly I loved the inside!  The pages are really cute (I tried to take pictures of them but they didn't really come out).   I'm clearly not the photographer in the family!  Plus we need a new digital camera!  That is also on the list of things to get before baby arrives!

We saw some bedding that we BOTH LOVED (which is a miracle!) and Tony told me he likes the colors brown and pink.  We found some bedding that is brown and pink with polka dots.  Super cute!  So I found it online to show you.  I wouldn't do the whole room in polka dots, that would make my head spin, but I think a few things wouldn't be awful.  We also found a pink and brown stroller/car seat.

Here's the bedding we saw at Wal-Mart that we liked..(It has a 4 piece set which would be awesome and then we could get a few accessories.)

Here's the stroller set we found that is also pink and brown...(But it's not polka dots).

I did see some other bedding I liked, that Tony also kind of likes, but doesn't love as much as the pink and brown set.

The reason I like the pink and brown is because I think it's a bit more modern and we can get a darker colored crib which Tony likes too...White has me nervous because I don't want it to look dirty!

We still haven't made any big purchases, we probably won't until we're moved.  But I also don't want to commit to things just yet!  Luckily we're narrowing things down!  Let me know what you think!!

Baby at 21 Weeks!

In all the excitement over the ultrasound and finding out what we're having, I forgot to mention I'm officially at 21 weeks today!  So here's the weekly update about the baby...

Your baby now weighs about three-quarters of a pound and is approximately 10 1/2 inches long — the length of a carrot. You may soon feel like she's practicing martial arts as her initial fluttering movements turn into full-fledged kicks and nudges. You may also discover a pattern to her activity as you get to know her better. In other developments, your baby's eyebrows and lids are present now, and if you're having a girl, her vagina has begun to form as well.

Results of our Ultrasound!

WOW!  What an exciting (and exhausting!) day.  Definitely worth the exhaustion!

So first we had our ultrasound which took about half an hour.  Of course she asked if we wanted to know what we were having (if she could tell) and I said "YES!".  It still kind of blows my mind people when people don't want to know but to each his own...Anyway, so there was a monitor that was placed nicely so I could see without straining my neck and as soon as she started, you could see the baby!  And it really looked like a baby!  Our first ultrasound it just looked like a blob in a tear drop, but this time, there was no denying that it was a baby.  We saw the profile and the heart beating (which is always a relief to see) and then she went looking to see if it was a boy or girl.  It took her a while..She kept moving it around trying to get a good angle and I thought knowing our luck the baby wouldn't be cooperating and we wouldn't be able to find out.  But, finally, she pointed on the screen and said "Those are girl parts!" to which I think I got a huge grin!  Let's back up for a minute...Right when Tony and I found out I was pregnant, within a week or so, I told him it was a girl.  I just had this gut feeling it was..I was drawn to girl things, it just never occured to me it could be a boy.  But of course when people started saying they thought it was a boy, I started to doubt myself.  But in the end, I really did know!

Anyway, we got to see just about everything.  The brain, spine, kidneys, bladder, stomach, heart, diaphragm, legs, arms, hands, nose, lip, umbilical cord, placenta, EVERYTHING!  It was amazing!  And then they got some 3D shots which were just mind boggling! At one point she was trying to get certain angles of things but the baby wasn't cooperating!  The ultrasound tech needed the baby to turn so I had to lay on my side to try and get her to move.  Luckily she finally did.

Then it was off to see my regular doctor at my regular clinic and I was a bit nervous...We had to get the "results" of our ultrasound from the doctor.  But he assured us everything was looking great and right on schedule.  He said the heart beat was normal (153 beats per minute!)...The kidneys were there and creating urine, they could see it in the bladder, the brain was developing normally, and from what they could see of the heart, it looked fine.  So, that was a relief!

He did mention the placenta is in the front of the uterus.  It's not blocking the cervix which would be an issue, it's just in front.  So he said I probably wouldn't feel the baby move as much because the placenta acts like a padding where it is.  Which was comforting because I've been reading and talking to friends and everything says I should be feeling kicks soon and I haven't been.  I've been feeling some fluttering, but nothing major.  I'm glad he forwarned me!  I would have been obssessed about it!  And because of where the placenta is, he wants to do another ultrasound at 32 weeks just to make sure the baby is growing properly.

All in all, everything looks good.  I'll continue to have doctor appointments every 4 weeks, until I'm 28 weeks, then they'll be every 2, and then at thirty some odd weeks, I'll go every week.  Oh and my due date is staying where it is...The ultrasound was right with the date the doctor gave.

So here are the pictures of the ultrasound..I might be kind of biased but I think she's quite cute already!  And right now she's still pretty much bones so she'll look kind of like a skelton, but a cute skelton!

Tomorrow is the BIG day!!

First of all, I can't believe it's already November.

Second of all, I can't believe we're actually having our ultrasound tomorrow to find out what it is!  Hopefully the baby is cooperative and not too shy!  :)

So, tomorrow I have a hectic day with little sleep to get me through!  Of course on the day I have this super exciting ultrasound, I also have an in-service meeting at work!  So here's the deal:  I have to work tonight from 3-11:30 PM, get home at midnight, take Tony to work at 3:00 AM, come home (try to sleep!) leave for work at 8:30 AM, get to work by 9 AM, stay until 12 PM, go pick up Tony, grab some lunch, go to my first doctor's appointment at 2:00 PM, drive to my other doctor's office by 3:10 PM for my regular check up, call everyone, celebrate with Tony, come home and crash!!

The only thing that's going to get me through is knowing we're having our ultrasound!  I told my friend at work, she was responsible for keeping me awake during the in-service meeting.  She pointed out she wasn't the best person for that job..She has to work today at her day job, then all night at our job 11:00 PM til 7:30 AM, go home shower and change come back for our meeting, and then go to her day job.  So, hopefully we BOTH won't fall asleep in our in-service meeting!!

Anyway, it's going to be an exciting day.  It feels like Christmas!!  YAY!

Just a few more days...

until our ultrasound!!  I'm so excited!!  I had to change my insurance and got onto Tony's, so I'm hoping it won't affect our next appointment.  Because this is the BIG appointment.  And I would be super crushed, if we had to delay our ultrasound.  So, I'm hoping and praying we won't have to do that!

A couple weeks ago I started feeling a bit of "fluttering" and of course, I didn't know what it was until my doctor explained it to me and now I'm like obsessed with trying to feel the baby move.  Part of it is just pure excitement of feeling the baby move around and kick.  The other part is me worrying about the baby so I keep thinking if it's moving and kicking then I'll know it's doing alright!  But it still doesn't feel quite like kicking...So I'm always thinking "Was that the baby or was that just my tummy being weird??".  I'm pretty anxious to get a big ol' kick so I know for sure! HA!  Although later I might be complaining how painful it is!

I've been reading about taking a "babymoon" before the baby comes...And I'm really loving the idea!  I think a weekend in Portland would be fantastic but if I could really have my way, I'd say a few days in Seattle would be even better!  But, I won't push it.  Portland is enough of a vacation for me!  I want to save the big fun trips for when the baby is here and we can go together...Like say Disneyland?!  Tony and I are big kids...We got to go to Disneyland for our Honeymoon and have wanted to go back since.  So next time, we'll be able to really have fun with "Peanut" as Tony so affectionately refers to the baby.

I think a trip to Portland will be necessary anyways, because as great as Eugene is, it's lacking some big baby stores that Portland has to offer.  Plus there's an Ikea in Portland and I can think of a few things we'll need for our new place that we can definitely find at Ikea!  Some days I do miss Phoenix, having just about every store you can think of within a 30 minute drive!  (Well, I guess it could be longer depending on traffic!)  And while the internet does offer a lot of things at the tip of my fingers, when it comes to certain things (well, most things!) I'm hesitant to buy it without seeing it first.

Tomorrow I go back to work after being sick for the last week..And I gotta say, I've enjoyed my time at home with Tony and our doggy Bubby.  Even if I was miserable with the flu!  I can't even imagine how hard it'll be to go back to work after my 8-12 weeks of maternity leave, plus I know it'll be awful leaving my little baby...This last week has been nice because it hasn't been so stressful or mentally demanding.  When I'm at work, I'm responsible for like 11 people's lives.  It can be a bit overwhelming at times!  And being gone a week, is like being gone years.  A lot can happen in 7 days.  And that is really an understatement.

I probably won't be posting much until Wednesday the BIG DAY!!  If we have to change our appointment I'll be sure to let you know.  But our ultrasound is at 2 PM (pacific time) and our regular check up appointment is at 3:10 PM so expect phone calls sometime after that!
